(this FAQ applies to FREE hosting only)

PHP safe mode is kept on for the security of your website and Hostaim.com.

The following PHP functions are disabled:  system,exec,shell_exec,passthru,set_time_limit,error_log,
ini_alter,dl,pfsockopen,openlog,syslog,readlink,symlink,
link,leak,fsockopen,popen,escapeshellcmd,
apache_child_terminate,apache_get_modules,
apache_get_version,apache_getenv,apache_note,
apache_setenv,virtual

GD 2.0  and ZEND optimizer is supported.

Memory limit per PHP script for memory will allow most normal scripts to work (such as phpBB) however it will not allow more resource intensive scripts to work (such as a wiki script).

If you want your website to have www.yourdomain.com, you must add it from your control panel > account settings.

Please type in the box,www.yourdomain.com, however http://yourdomain.com will then no longer work

Our nameservers are NS1.HOSTAIM.COM and NS2.HOSTAIM.COM

The max file size for uploading any type of file is currently 10mb. 

HostAim.com  will have sent an email on signup with your ftp details (check your junk mail folder) however incase you didnt get it, the following information applies:

ftp hostname: username.free-site-host.com
ftp username: username
ftp password: account password
ftp port: 21

Chmodding files is not necessary and you will find it does not work in FTP. Although you can use internet explorer for FTP with support.

Type this url:

ftp://username:password@username.hostaim.com

Or type ftp://username.hostaim.com

Replacing username with its correct value, and you will be prompted to login.

You will not be able unzip files however you can unzip them on your computer and upload them via FTP. 

You can use WEB ftp like a service such as www.net2ftp.com this will work fine.

File Permission is not necessary on HostGG.com, even though your script may say they are, continue with the script install and you will find that they are not necessary.

You can obtain a good FTP client/program, we recommend www.smartftp.com , which is free for non commercial use.

You cannot upload .htaccess files these will not work and are not allowed. 

You are allowed 2 simultaneous connections per IP with your FTP connections

IF you did not recieve an activation email, check your spam folder, if it is not there signup again using a service like gmail.

If you need to delete your account, login to the filemanager, go to account settings and click on remove account. If you cannot login, check your date/time and check to see if your browser accepts cookies.  You will not be able to change your username, you must signup again and transfer your files to your new account.

You cannot remove the footer link, your site will be AUTOMATICALLY deleted.

HostAim.com does support MYSQL, however it has some restrictions such as not being able to LOCK tables which some advanced scripts will need to operate.

To create a MYSQL database, please login to your panel and then click the create/delete mysql database button

1. First type a database name in the create database section and click create database.
2. Then create a username and password in the create user section. (note these do not have to be the same as your account username and password)
3. Then assign full privlidges to this user for this database in the create privlidges section by clicking assign privlidges

your database name should look like: abcabc_abc
your database username should look like: abcabc_abc
your database password should be whatever you set it to

NOTE: you MUST assign privilidges for the database to work.

To connect to MYSQL you must use the following details

database name = username_dbname
database user = username_dbuser
host = localhost
port = default
database password = dbpassword

NOTE: replace the values dbname, dbuser and dbpassword with their real values, you must have created this database and assigned privlidges, see the article above for more information on this.

PHPMyAdmin url is http://free-site-host.com/phpmyadmin .

You can backup your database via phpmyadmin » export.

You can recover a lost database password by doing this:  You must delete this MYSQL user and create it again, remember to update your scripts config file with the new database user connection information if it has changed. This will NOT result in the loss of any MYSQL data.

You cannot use SMTP, no mail is allowed from our service, sorry.
